Join us for Bird Walks on the 4th Saturdays – June-September at 8 am (until October when we’ll return to a 9 am start time) at the NWDC-River Campus. Meet on the deck. This also includes a ‘big sit’ for those who can’t or don’t want to walk.

We may offer more bird walks in the summer if there’s a demand. Check the AVAS Facebook page for details.
Bring your binoculars, hat, sunscreen, insect repellant, and water. This program is free of charge. Donations are always appreciated!
AVAS leads Boys/Girls Clubs Bird Walks on the 3rd Friday of every month. at the NWDC- River Campus. Children ages 6-14 participate.
Mark Yaeger will lead a butterfly walk on 6/13 from 9am-11am.at NWDC- Mountain Campus (Beulah Mountain Park). Meet at the Horseshoe Lodge in Beulah.
Barb Muniz will lead a bird walk on 6/13 at 7:30 am at Minnequa Lake 3005 Lakeshore Dr. Pueblo, CO-. Meet in the parking lots near the soccer fields.

April 4, 2026 –Twenty participants on a great, sunny morning; saw 32 species with Black-crowned Night Herons (3) two juveniles and one adult observed and Great Blue Herons (6), including one on an active nest. An entertaining California Gull (1) observed attacking a cormorant to try to steal a fish the cormorant caught. It was a wonderful day for fishing as the ospreys, cormorants and gulls had their fill as well as the American Coot (14) joining in on the sport of fishing.
